What is Hypnosis? The word Hypnosis is derived from the Greek God of sleep—Hypnos. Yet, hypnosis is not the kind of sleep like when you go to bed at night. Hypnosis is an altered state of mind in which you are very relaxed, physically and mentally while remaining aware of everything going on around you. In fact it is very natural state of mind which you go in and out of many times in a day: daydreaming, studying for a test or exam, being absorbed in reading a good book, working on the computer, watching TV or playing video games. Have you ever been driving down the highway and reached your exit without fully remembering the drive? All these are examples of being in a light state of hypnosis. Just as in these examples, you are always in control—you are in a state of acute awareness and heightened suggestibility. (You would never do anything against your will or moral code.)
In Hypnosis, you induce a state of mind/body relaxation in which your brain waves actually change their “frequency” so to speak from beta to alpha waves. Hypnosis opens a direct path to the subconscious part of the Brain that operates according to the law of habits (both good and not so good) and “speaks” to it, and in so doing through intentional suggestion “reprograms” positive thoughts and behavior to replace limiting and negative thoughts and behavior. Think of your subconscious as a biocomputer. Your subconscious stores all experiences, memories, beliefs, and habits about you. It then acts upon the programs it receives. Information in---information acted out—habitual response.
In fact, I put people in Trance, in order to get them out of the Trance of compulsive out of control behavior and negative or limiting beliefs… and reprogramming positive self-talk and constructive and healthy behavior. Behavior change (generally, although not always), takes between 21-30 days of reinforcement. “Your mind always moves in the direction of your most dominant thought.” Change the way that you think and you will change the way that you live your life. A growing body of research supports Hypnosis as an effective tool for change and treatment for a variety of issues. The AMA has recognized Hypnosis as a valid form of therapy since 1958. A recent study with patients at the Univ. of Utah Medical School found that Hypnosis speeded up their recovery and because of the relaxation effects, less anesthesia was needed. According to a study at the Univ of Conn, Hypnosis doubled weight loss success in tandem with behavior modification…and with the Obesity epidemic in this country that is a very important piece of information to know and take advantage of!
Hypnosis is used successfully for Smoking cession, fear of flying, for motivation and to help build self-esteem, to overcome fears and phobias. Hypno-birthing is used instead of drugs for labor and delivery and for its overall health and relaxation benefits. Athletes use hypnosis to induce peak performance. Experience the benefits yourself! Hypnosis when conducted by a qualified Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist can help “change your mind” so that you can live your best life!
